GERD: surgery, omeprazole similarly effective over 10-y span

- Open anti-reflux surgery (ARS) and omeprazole (OME) were both effective in normalizing esophageal acid exposure during a 10 y follow-up.
- For patients undergoing ARS, lower esophageal sphincter (LES) function was repaired durably by surgery, with increased resting pressure and abdominal length.
